Good practice guidance on the use of self-help materials within IAPT services
This guide was produced following an Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) Conference held at the Queens Hotel in Leeds in February 2009. The conference had been organised in response to feedback from services and those attending training courses expressing a need for expert guidance on the use of self-help materials given the wide range of different materials and media all purporting to offer helpful advice and information to people about a range of problems and disorders. A conference was organised with expert researchers and practitioners who had experience of developing self-help materials in order to discuss whether guidance should be forthcoming and in which form it should take. Rather than endorsing particular self-help materials that are available, the conference focused on attempting to derive a set of criteria by which both practitioners and people might be able to assess the utility and effectiveness of particular materials. It was agreed that these principles might provide the basis for a ‘Good Practice Guide’ about how to choose and use self-help materials. This guide has been written by the contributors to the conference (listed in Annex 1). Presentations from the conference are also available on the IAPT website (www.iapt.nhs.uk).- Filetype

The IAPT Pathfinders Achievements and Challenges
Published October 2008. This document explores the progress made by the IAPT Pathfinder sites, celebrating their achievements and seeking to learn from the challenges they have faced. Most of the Pathfinder sites have progressed to become part of the first year of national roll-out of the IAPT programme. Their experience in seeking to meet the needs of all sections of the community, collecting effective outcomes data, and successfully implementing new services will be particularly valuable to other PCTs involved in this roll-out.- Filetype

IAPT Supervision Guidance (Revised March 2011)
Professors Graham Turpin and Sue Wheeler (University of Sheffield and University of Leicester). Supervision is a key activity, which will determine the success of the IAPT programme. We are in the process of supporting the commissioning of training for all IAPT supervisors throughout the SHA regions based on a supervision framework specifically developed for IAPT (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/clinical-psychology/CORE/competence_frameworks.htm ). We recognise that as most services and training courses are now being implemented, a summary of principles of IAPT supervision is required for Clinical and Course Directors. Hence, the summary of principles and is reproduced here. It should be stressed that the standards identified are the minimum requirements and individual services may wish to organise additional supervision and support for staff. The full version of this document provides the rationale upon which this guidance is based and provides further advice around supervision, which will detail the different forms of supervision expected within an IAPT service and the importance of issues such cultural sensitivity and how supervision can be tailored to meet the needs of clients, supervisees and the service.- Filetype
