Funded as part of the Government’s Response to Dame Carol Black’s review of the Health of the Working- age population, DWP launched 12 IAPT employment adviser pilots across IAPT sites in each of England’s Strategic Health Authorities (SHA). For two years from January 2009, the employment advisers worked alongside therapists, providing guidance and practical support to people using the IAPT service to remain in work or return to work from a period of sickness absence. These pilots focused on job retention. For IAPT service users who are out of work, the employment advisers help with access to Jobcentre Plus and partner support.
The Employment Adviser job retention pilots took place in:

- Camden PCT
- Central and Eastern Cheshire PCT
- Ealing PCT
- East Riding of Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire PCTs
- Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
- North Tyneside PCT
- Shropshire PCT
- Swindon PCT
- West Kent PCT.
