Counselling can help people with emotional difficulties and problems in relating to people. There are many different types of counselling. IAPT offers a particular type of counselling, recommended by NICE, that has been developed to help people suffering from depression.
Typically people with mild to moderate depression might receive between six and 10- sessions over eight to 12 weeks. In cases of serious depression, up to 20 sessions of counselling are recommended. In most NHS services people are likely to be seen once a week for 50 to 60 minutes.
