Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners in CBT

People from a wide range of backgrounds reflecting the local community, with a special interest in therapy and able to meet the academic levels of the course are eligible to train as Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWPs). They work with people who have mild to moderate depression and anxiety disorders.

PWP competences have been defined and incorporated into the job descriptions and curriculum. The role is described in the Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner Best Practice Guide.

Qualified psychological wellbeing practitioners provide high volume, low intensity CBT-based interventions at Step 2, including guided self help.  Jobs are decided locally but typical roles may include:

Trainee psychological wellbeing practitioners attend a one-year post graduate certificate training programme involving one day a week at college and four days a week providing supervised practice.

No national KSF outlines for trainees are being developed.
